Rönesansa hayat veren Endülüslerin başkenti Sevilla'nın belki de en ilgi çekici yerlerinden biridir bu meydan. Plaza de Espana, 1929 yılında Expo İber-Amerikan fuarına ev sahipliği yapan Sevilla'nın simgelerinden birisi olması için yapılmış. Mimarisiyle Mudejar yani İslam-Hristiyanlık kültürünün karışımı bir mimari tarzını yansıtan bu yapı ünlü Maria-Luisa Parkının içinde bulunmaktadır. 



Plaza de Espana aynı zamanda bir çok filme de ev sahipliği yapmıştır. 1962 yılında çekilen Arabistanlı Lawrence, 1999 yılında çekilen Star Wars 1, 2002 yılında çekilen Star Wars 2 ve 2012 yılında çekilen The Dictator filmlerinin bazı sahneleri burada çekilmiştir. Özellikle Star Wars için çekilen sahnelerinde Naboo gezegeni olarak yer alması hayranlarının burayı görmesi açısından çok önemli.



Hilal şeklinde yapılmış olan bu yapının ortası büyük bir meydan olarak kullanılıyor. Sevillanın en önemli turistik mekanlarından olan Plaza de Espana günümüzde bazı kamu kurumlarına evsahipliği yapıyor. Plaza de Espana'nın meydana bakan yüzünde 40 şehri temsil eden çiniler bulunuyor. Bu çinilere şehrin özelliğini yansıtan motifler ve resimler yansıtılmış. Fotoğrafta gördüğünüz Toledo'ya ait çinilerde müslümanların şehrin anahtarlarını Kral Alfonso'ya sunarken ve diz çökerken ki halleri yansıtılmış.


Burada bir çok turistik hediye satıcısıyla karşılaşabilirsiniz. Hediyelik dükkanlara göre daha uygun fiyatla satın alabileceğiniz hediyeler için pazarlık da yapmak mümkün. Buraya metronu Plaza de Espana durağını kullanarak yada Parque Maria Luisa durağını kullanarak ulaşabilirsiniz. City Bus otobüsleri de buradan sık sık geçiyor. Günlük 18 Euro vererek bu otobüsleri kullanarak bütün turistik yerleri de gezebilirsiniz. Metro ve otobüste geçerli olan biletin fiyatı ise 1,40 Euro. Sevilla katedralinden sonra 3 veya 4 metro durağından sonra buraya varıyorsunuz. Bu arada metronun 3 nolu hattnı kullanmalısınız.
